Top producer/engineer Calum Malcolm joins the list of Total Audio Control users with a pair of  MICPRE ONE and EQ ONE

My first impression of the MICPRE ONE & EQ ONE is that they are both outstanding. I have to be blunt here - I'm not really that bothered by "gear" these days. I've been doing this job so long now that I generally ignore the equipment and work around whatever is to hand. But this is the first time for many years that something has really caught my attention.

The EQ ONE has what I usually miss in modern (and many 'classic') designs. It sounds muscular, but so musical, even when abused. I love the broadness of the sound.

The MICPRE ONE is very quiet, un-stressed and transparent sounding, with a similar texture to the early Amek consoles which I love.

And although the sound and colour of good transformer-balanced designs is undeniable, the advantages of a well-designed transformer-less mic amp - in particular the deep, clean bass and clear lower mids - makes the MICPRE ONE a serious tool.
